A Paid On Call Firefighter works part-time for up to 36 hours per week during probation. Paid On Call Firefighters respond to alarms or requests for service, act in emergencies such as storms and medical emergencies, extinguish fires, and perform service work as directed. Paid On Call Firefighters work 12-hour shifts and have the eligibility to work nights or weekends. The Paid On Call Firefighter position works well for those superheroes looking for work outside of the traditional hours of 9-to-5. Paid On Call Firefighters must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Michigan Driver's License and a safe driving record. Candidates must also have the ability to pass the CPAT and NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800. The City will pay for your part time fire academy to acquire your Fire I, Fire II, and EMT certification. While you are attending the academy you can work up to 3 shifts per week to learn the job. Once you pass your certifications you will increase in pay and then can work as many shifts as you like once you are fully certified.
